In November 2025, during the federal government shutdown, SNAP benefits for millions of people arrived late, and in many states only part of the month's benefits came at first. Earlier that year, in July, Congress passed eligibility cuts to SNAP and Medicaid. Some took effect in 2025 and 2026, and more start in 2027 and 2028. In Hungry America, people who run food programs talk about what they are seeing as those cuts take effect for our neighbors they serve.
